Q&A With Kam Williams
Kam Williams is describes himself as a “young arranger living in the state of Maryland.” His goal: “to finish school with my degree in both production/psychology/sociology.”
He describes on his SoundCloud page:
“I create alternative instrumentals and ambiance. Inspiration includes, Linkin Park, Daughter, Kid Cudi and a few others as well as genres of melodic hardcore, progressive metalcore, hip hop and indie. Why make generic music when we know that the music world needs to evolve? With the power of God and ideas, creativity will grow as well as us.”
Our Q&A
KA: What got you into producing music?
KW: Well I wanted to do vocal performances first, but I wanted to go a different route because of the opportunities offered. It is because I didn’t want to see myself at a stage where I couldn’t progress. I was originally a singer in high school, but I decided to make beats and learned from my cousin. I made my first track in 45 minutes, but after that I started practicing/making tracks. It wasn’t everyday, but it was at least 5 hours during a day that I would work on a track.
KA: Where do you see yourself in the future, in regards to making music?
KW: Once I finish up with getting my bachelor’s degree at Elon University, I plan to do music therapy. If that doesn’t work out, then I plan to do music for video games and film, but so far I’ve been doing a lot of curricular activities that leads me towards being a psychologist and sociologist.
KA: What do you in your spare time besides creating music?
KW: Besides school and work, I just do regular people stuff… like hanging out with friends, going to the gym, going to shows at venues, which reminds me… I need to go to one. It’s been awhile.
KA: What genre would you describe your beats as?
KW: I wouldn’t put it in a category. On SoundCloud, I put enter it in as “Alternative” because it is easier for people to access, but as far as my perspective, I wouldn’t put my music in a category and other musicians shouldn’t either. This is because it is based upon feeling and not so much style.
KA: How many tracks have you produced?
KW: Like 130 beats and six with vocals in them. I did seven solo projects, five singles, two commercial tracks, one trailer track (which is also a soundtrack). They weren’t distribute them, but I have them as a portfolio.
KA: What is your favorite song that you’ve produced?
KW: More than one track. Earth’s Corealesce ft. Nu-REV, Omnispere… damn I like them all and I’m proud of what I’ve done because as I make each different track, my skills become more enhanced.
KA: I liked your ‘Video Project’. That was pretty cool.
KW: Thank you man, I appreciate that. I actually did that as a finally project for my MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) class.
KA: Have you played any live shows?
KW: Sadly, no. I have not. To be honest, I don’t want to rush into it. Once I have everything that I need, as far as equipment, then I will do live shows.
KA: Who influenced your style of dress? I see that you have a lot of classic snapbacks of many teams…
KW: My cousin actually gave me advice on how to dress. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t have the best attire and I didn’t have the nicest fashion. As long as I had shoes on my feet, pants and a shirt to cover my body, I was fine. I got the hat wearing from my father, he has a lot of Nike hats.
KA: Lastly, does Young Metro trust you?
KW: *Laughs for a very long time*
