What Kicks to Cop this Weekend (7/8 & 7/9)

It’s time for yet another weekly edition of WTCTW folks. I hope you all enjoyed the special holiday edition that we had last week here on TDT hosted by one of our newest members, Gabby. One more big thanks to her for the great job she did in my absence, and you guys will no doubt be hearing more from her about sneakers in the near future. As far as the releases for this weekend go, anyone who loves color and an interesting backstory for designs will most definitely like what’s coming your way.

Some tough decisions had to be made for what ‘NOT’ to cop this week, but here they are.

Nike KD 9 “Mic Drop” (7/9/16) $150

  • It’s ironic how these are nicknamed “Mic Drop” considering how Kevin Durant just made the decision to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder for the most historic regular season team ever in NBA history in the Golden State Warriors. KD made a comment very recently about how his shoe prices are rising, because he’s not an “$88 player”. Well I have news for you Kevin, these things that you and Nike have been putting out lately as your signature shoe are not worth $150 bro. My advice to you is that if you’re going to talk a big game about your shoes, at least ensure that the product will back up your words. Leave these in the store folks, shouldn’t even have to give this decision any thought to be honest.

Alumni x FILA Overpass Beef Patty (7/9/16) $100

  • Much respect to FILA for thinking outside of the box with this collab and coming up with a unique idea for the look of a shoe. I must admit though, that it’s just something about this color way that I don’t like. I’ve never eaten a beef patty before, but I’ve heard that they are good, so maybe some of you are there will be willing to try your luck with these at $100. At the end of the day I say pass on this kick, but some people want to be different and a shoe like this will do just that for you.

Nike Kyrie 2 “Triple Black” (7/9/16) $120

  • Let me get this off my chest first, I’m a huge fan of Kyrie Irving’s game on the court and I also firmly believe that his signature kicks are solid for all on-court purposes. The ONLY reason that these are on my ‘NOT’ for this week is because of all bland the triple black look is. For $120 I have no problem with these as a cop for a hooping shoe, but I have higher expectations for Nike and Kyrie. If this design had say a hint of gold or even white these probably would have made my ‘COP’ list.

Nike Kobe 11 EM Low “Blackout” (7/9/16) $160

  • Kobe Bryant is definitely enjoying the retirement life right about now, but he and Nike are still making money off of his signature kicks. I like this silhouette and there isn’t anything particularly wrong with this shoe, I’m just being pretty picky. Once again the simplicity of this shoe is why I say don’t cop because better looks are out there in the exact same model of the shoe. For $160 though, if simple is your type of thing go for this kick.

Finally, here’s what y’all ‘SHOULD COP’ this weekend.

Feature x Diadora N9000 Pistachio (7/8/16) $210

  • For all of you out there who are frequent readers of WTCTW, you all know I love eye popping looks when it comes to shoes. This kick right here is a pretty fun idea that Diadora came up with for this collab, and even though I’ve never eaten pistachios this color way is pretty sweet. I will admit that $210 is kind of steep for this specific brand and shoe, but it’s a different look and worth the money in my mind.

Under Armour Curry 2 Low “SC30 Select Camp” (7/9/16) $120

  • Low top shoes can always be risky, but I salute Under Armour for taking a chance with this model. Once again eye popping is what attracts me and I like the unique feel of all these different colors together in one shoe. It will indeed be difficult to try and color coordinate outfits with a shoe like this, but those of you out there with good imaginations will make it work. For $120 these are a steal to me.

Air Jordan XXX Quai 54 “Cosmos” (7/9/16) $200

  • Ima let this be known straight off the rip, these are STRICTLY for the hardwood. Please do not rock these out in the streets as part of a regular outfit. The flashiness and everything that’s going on with this shoe makes it a head turning look for on the court. Jordan Brand deserves some credit for the adventurous feel they’ve given to this shoe. At $200, go ahead and give this one a go to all my hoopers out there.

BAIT x Dreamworks x Diadora S8000 Where’s Wally? (7/9/16) $220

  • This is a pretty huge weekend for Diadora and their collaborations. As you can see I’m a supporter for both of the different looks they have dropping this weekend, and I think that we will be seeing much more out of them in future editions of WTCTW. If you guys didn’t know, my favorite color is red so there’s a soft spot for this shoe in my heart. $220 is a little expensive I won’t lie, but keep in mind that collars are typically more expensive than a solo product. This is a sleek look folks, don’t sleep on this release.

That’s it for this edition of “What Kicks to Cop this Weekend”. Best of luck in the shoe journeys this weekend folks, and for those of you who make some successful cops feel free to show the blog or myself on Twitter @TheDemoTape_ and @JTexKnows.
