[PREMIERE] Ride With John Wells On ‘The Whip EP’

John Wells moves up the white rapper power rankings again

As the old saying goes, hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard. Lucky for John Wells (ironically known as Lor Luck) he has embodied both in 2017. The rapper gave us the impressive D.O.G.S. Side 1 earlier this year then kept the momentum going by dropping videos for various singles from that project over the last three weeks.

It was in the final video Wells released, the visuals for standout single “Devils”, where he announced that a new project was on the way before the end of the year. All of that brings us to The Whip EP. Wells shines on this eight-track project assisted by non-rapping cameos from the likes of Chris Cassius and Beahmouse head honcho Scotty Banx among others. It is clear though that Wells is the star of this movie.

This EP feels like what a J. Cole project would be if he still rapped instead of singing negro spirituals. The title is fitting as these eight tracks are the perfect soundtrack for navigating in the whip. The production of this joint is fire with every sample and beat switch feeling appropriate for Well’s style. The phone convos sprinkled throughout only add to the feeling that you’re riding alongside Lor Luck and company, not just listening through the speakers. Listen to The Whip EP below on SoundCloud.
