We as consumers always see the final product, but never see the long toiling hours that go into creating the quality of the project. Giving it his all, enlisting the creative powers of all those in his area to fine tune his project, spitting the hardest bars he has ever spit in the most meticulous manner possible, and releasing the project even from Johns Hopkins hospital, it is safe to say that few toiled as hard as Android No.23 in releasing all of his pain and passion into an incredible 5-track EP for Hip Hop lovers everywhere.
The story behind the making of the project is so inspiring, that an entirely separate piece needed to be done which includes recognition from even Metro Boomin and more producers across the nation giving their praise to the grind. But for now, we will focus on the quality and details of the music that tells a just as powerful story.
1.) NO PEACE:
“No Peace” contained an incredibly beautiful and quaint intro. With it finds an inspiring introductory word by Android No.23 defining the meaning of peace; not only for the listeners but for the context of the theme of the EP describing his life.
“Freedom from disturbance…freedom from violence…”
-Android No.23 on “No Peace” from ADVERSE EP
With a meticulously quarter-rhyme crafted second verse with guitars infused into the instrumental by amazing collaborative thinking of the five producers on this track, “No Peace” shined as a great intro to what would be a great EP to be talked about for some time from start to finish.
2.) ONE ON ONE
“One on One” is a prior single from 2017, but like a boomerang, this banger not only slaps you again, but also fits in the context of the project as Android flaunts his ability in terms of rap and creativeness that silences any opponent bold enough to be a fool to step to him.
“Android! Stamp my name on that!/
I’m doing this outta love fuck, some fame off rap!”
-Android No.23, “One on One” from ADVERSE EP
The instrumental dips and other small elements of production compliment Android’s flow as it functions as an extra essential instrument to the song.
3.) Fair Trade feat. Vlad
“Fair Trade” feat. Vlad from Maryland collective 3SIDE was so unfair in how good it was that I had to write a completely separate review on its own for it, as Vlad rips apart the beat like the classiest rap savage in the DMV that you will ever know accompanied by Android’s essential anchoring of the cataclysmic bar onslaught of a track.
4.) In the Shadows:
“In the Shadows” starts off with a Paramore track in the 2000s type of ominous. You can feel Android’s pain and compelling artistry within the intro with his lyrics and gospel-like confessional.
“Feed your mind and feed your body/
Faith in God means no one else can stop me/
The devil dancing only turns you into copy.”
-Android No.23 “In the Shadows” from ADVERSE EP
Describing his battle with Sickle-Cell Anemia disease and fighting life’s woes, “In the Shadows” is a letter to himself as Android speaks of a growth in intellect and equally reflective bars in order to ease the pain. It is after the second hook with emphasized production that the listener realizes that there might not be a favorite track they have, because each track is of the highest quality.
5.) I-95:
Sounding like a Sonic Adventure Battle 2 track, “I-95” was experimental but a banger in the same vein with Android floating over the beat effortlessly and a subtle applause to end such a high charged song and EP that should be talked about for days on days with his quality conciseness, production and storytelling that might even be bigger than the artist itself in the greatest way possible.
It’s definitely deeper than rap.
