Bass Monkei strikes once again this year with his newest project, THOUGHTS. The art of the creatives’ hustle in our contemporary age is not an easy one, but 3SIDE’s dark horse producer/juggernaut makes it look effortless with his own marketing, project construction and otherworldly instrumentals on every single track. THOUGHTS is a continuation of this game winning formula for Bass Monkei taking listeners on a spiritually freeing journey.
“Wild Thoughts” was quaint, ocean-like with its calmness and cleanest distorted songs ever. This track sounded like the intro into a state of inception or limbo as you await judgment-in the waviest way possible.
“In” continued to showcase Bass Monkei’s talents and mastery of Lo-Fi Beats and various other producer styles. It sounded reminiscent of a 90s/2000s Toonami interlude. The construction of the instrumental was as fantastic as the transition into the second segment of the song.
“Darling” contained a wonderful sample, sounding like a parting song for a lover. “LANE G Freestyle” stood out as the most amped and power-packed track on the project. In lieu of his last project, Bass Monkei continued to show evolution by including a rapper on the unequivocally empowering instrumental. The rapper’s dexterously lyrical bars syllable by syllable as combined with Bass Monkei’s genius is a match made in underground DMV Hip Hop heaven.
“Space Level” was truly celestial in its timbre, giving the feeling of free-flowing in space towards a beautiful nothingness. Speaking of flowing, this song and its transition to the next track illuminated the cohesive theme of THOUGHTS in giving your mind the freedom to think as loftily as possible. “Sky Bond” connected (no pun intended) the theme of free flowing thought to the song’s energy. Sounding like ascending in flight with a dream as a Crystal Fox cameo ended everything on a dynamic 3SIDE note that only the collective and himself can pull off, Bass Monkei absolutely refuses to miss, especially with this project.
