Out of all the singing competition shows that have graced television in the last few years, The Four on Fox has pushed the envelope the furthest. With an interesting twist to an extraordinary show, The Four brings on the best of the best artists each week to battle it out for a chance at achieving a musical dream. No one is safe and each contestant must fight to prove why they deserve to be crowned the champion. Of all the contestants that have competed on the show this season, Jersey native Leah Jenea has the most promising chance at being the next breakout R&B star.
She made her first national debut during Week Six of the show when she performed Daniel Caesar’s hit song “Best Part.”
Her first performance absolutely blew the judges away and her follow-up performance was enough to take out her opponent of the night, James Graham. Her stage presence, connection with the audience, and most of all her incredibly unique vocals were enough to secure her a spot for the night and a shot at securing a seat in the final four to battle it out in the finale.

Her last face-off during Comeback Week against competitor Carvena Jones wasn’t her strongest in her short run on the show, but it was Diddy who recognized the special gift she held, comparing her raw talent to the late Notorious B.I.G. Out of everybody on the show this season, Leah Jenea is arguably the only singer who has such a rare voice that is something no one has ever heard before.
The praises she received from the judges was proof she’s exactly what they’re looking for. As stated by Meghan Trainor, “Leah Jenea has the whole artist package thing that rattles you — I’m shaking.” She continued by saying “I thought I was watching history.” The purpose of the show is to find a truly ready artist who has the entire package and then some - I think it’s safe to say Leah Jenea more than fulfills those requirements.
The immensely-talented young vocalist isn’t new to this - she comes from a very musical family and she’s a multi- Amateur Night winner at the Apollo Theater. Hailing from Newark, New Jersey, Jenea has built a small fan base for her music which has allowed her to open up for well-known artists like Musiq Soulchild, Vivian Green, and Bilal.
What’s so unique about Jenea is that although us viewers have only been briefly acquainted with her, she’s shown that she has her own distinctive identity that no one can copy or replicate. DJ Khaled said it himself that she’s an icon in the making. “Michael Jackson, Mary J. Blige and Beyonce, all those artists I named had their own identity, that’s why they’re icons and superstars and that’s what I feel Leah is.” Her genuine voice is something that music is missing right now and what a power move it would be for her to swoop in and win the entire competition.
Entering the competition so late in the game already put her at a disadvantage because she didn’t have the luxury of time on her side. She’s had a very small window of time to wow the judges and win over the audience, but clearly she’s had no issues with that. We’re witnessing a beautiful journey of this young songstress. To be so developed as an artist at her age is simply amazing and mind-blowing at the same time. I for one am rooting for her in the finale. Don’t miss out on the season finale tonight to see who takes the crown.
